Volkswagen unveils the prototype of a new compact SUV at the International Motor Show in São Paulo 2012: the Taigun. This prototype is a tribute to the Brazilian market, but if it were to occur in series would be marketed worldwide. The Taigun represents an approach to the ultramodern New Small Family, and complements this range at the upper level.

Exterior Taigun has a vigorous look. The measured Taigun 3.859 mm long, 1.728 mm wide and 1.570 mm high. Regarding the overall length, the battle, extending from the front bumper to the rear, has a large length 2.740 mm. The result are short body overhangs and attractive proportions. The spacious interior of the prototype shows how Volkswagen can offer a compact, luxurious and versatile SUV at an affordable price.

New high-tech turbo engine of 110 CV
The four-seater equipped Taigun a new engine 1.0 TSI (turbocharged direct injection) which develops an output of 81 kW / hp from 110 5.000 rpm The average fuel consumption is only 4,7 l / 100 km (emissions CO2 : 110 g / km). Its direct-injection turbocharged engine extends the range of three-cylinder engines based on EA211 family and adding direct injection and turbo technology, and opens thus a new chapter in the Volkswagen downsizing strategy. The new powertrain is very thrifty and provides high torque even at low engine speeds (175 1.500 Nm from rpm). Therefore, the three-cylinder engine is TSI Taigun ideal for propulsion. The new engine accelerates the prototype of 985 kg of 0 to 100 km / h in just seconds 9,2. The Taigun has a top speed of 186 km / h on the German Autobahn that have no general speed limit. The engine is paired with a manual six-speed gearbox.

System 'ESC' as an effective stabilization program
The Taigun equipped with alloy wheels of 17 inch tires 205 / 50 R17, operates perfectly in difficult terrain thanks to the high torque motor and wide ground clearance. The Taigun incorporates disc brakes. Another advantage and an Electronic Stability Control 'ESC' which significantly reduces the risk of slippage of the car.

Light, powerful and safe design itself
The design of the prototype based on their body color "Seaside Blue". In side view beckon exposed fenders, that are seamlessly integrated manner on the side of the prototype area extending up to the doors. The front and rear of the prototype are joined by a line beneath the side windows, which flows into the C column in the rear. One of the typical features of Volkswagen's individual shape of the C columns where designers have integrated rear door handles flush with the bodywork and optimized, therefore, relative to the airfoil.

The lower area of the body is known for its coating integrated footrests, wheel arches and lower bumpers segment. Short overhangs prototype are especially attractive and offer a good use of space (before: only 708 mm and behind 681 mm). Finally, it includes a handy roof rack with integrated LED lights, which ennobles silhouette design.

The front and rear design Taigun links with the Volkswagen SUVs like the Tiguan and Touareg, and characterized by a path of horizontal lines. The underride guards up a metal bar. In the case of the back, the headlights are joined by a line below the emblem VW. The tailgate is bipartite prototype design, detail that is not apparent at first glance. The upper area (2 / 3), which extends to the lower edge of the rear lights, turned upward and the lower segment (1 / 3), which extends to the underrun bar, turn towards the road. Thus, you can open the top of the tailgate individually.

Interior Taigun optimizes space
The Taigun has a trunk of 280 liters by folding down the rear bench to the volume increases 987 liters. The high seating position is typical of an SUV, to satisfy the desire of drivers entering and exiting the vehicle very comfortable and have the best possible visibility. Free headroom is 1.036 mm front and behind 980 mm also ample headroom legroom allows high comfort in the rear. The driver's seat or the driver is perfectly suited to any height, the steering column can be adjusted in height to 25 degree angle.

All interior elements can be handled quite intuitively. Among the new design, the control panel lets you adjust the temperature and fan controller via a rotary air vents.

To the right of the radio navigation system is located on the regulator (on) / off (off) / volume. Under the infotainment system emergency flashers (center) and switches heating the rear window defrost function, climate control and exterior lighting that have been positioned centrally located and will provide an elegant look aluminum. Above the radio-navigation system and control panel are located three other instruments (oil pressure, water temperature and load pressure). Matching with the details of equipment up a flyer ergonomic three-spoke leather that fits perfectly into the hands of the driver is available.

The Taigun has the potential to be mass produced and this will depend on public acceptance.
