Nissan develops new charging system for electric vehicles

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and 4R Energy Corporation have jointly developed a charging system for electric vehicles that combines a solar power generating system with lithium-ion battery with high capacity. Evidence of this new system have begun today at Nissan headquarters in Yokohama.

With this new system, electricity is generated through solar cells installed at Nissan headquarters and stored in a lithium-ion battery equivalent to four units of Nissan LEAF. With seven charging stations (three quick charge and four normal charge) located at the headquarters facility, the total amount of electricity that can be generated and stored is equivalent to the full charge of Nissan LEAF 1.800 year.

This new system will enable electric vehicles that do not emit CO2, uploaded through a completely renewable source of energy. It is a solution to create a cycle in which emissions resulting from driving CO2 are zero. By using the same lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles as stationary storage batteries, can also provide electricity for these vehicles regardless of time of day or the weather, allowing more efficient use of sources of renewable energy.
